MEOPAR National Forum on Coastal Community Resilience
National Forum 2022
Local Government Initiatives
May 25-26, 2022 | Virtual Event
This unique, fully-virtual event on May 25-26 2022, enabled professionals across the country to interact with representatives from coastal communities about initiatives and challenges for building community resilience in the face of diverse coastal hazards. It was also an opportunity for local government representatives to bring the attention of upper levels of government to local issues needing their support.
The Forum explored two themes: Resilience Planning and Partnerships, and Disaster Recovery and Lessons. Sessions ran for three hours each day and featured community ‘snapshot’ presentations from local government representatives; panel discussions with representatives from federal, provincial, and local government agencies, NGOs and Networks, and the research community; as well as breakout room discussions open to all participants.
National Forum 2020
The first National Forum on Coastal Community Resilience took place on September 29 & 30, 2020.
The National Forum provided an opportunity for people living in communities on all of Canada’s coasts to engage with each other and to share approaches and ideas for adapting to sea-level rise and coastal flooding. Over two days of presentations and interactive discussions, participants had the opportunity to learn about and discuss initiatives and innovative climate actions for addressing sea-level rise, coastal flooding, and related coastal hazards.
